After being elected as chairman for the third time and taking the oath, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has warned that if there is even an attempt to arrest him to summon him for questioning by the Commission for Investigation, he will paralyze the country and overthrow the Shusila Karki-led civilian government.
Oli, who defeated his rival Ishwar Pokharel by a large margin in the 11th General Convention to become chairman for the third time, gave this warning in his first address at the oath-taking ceremony. He accused the Commission for Investigation of conducting a media trial by attempting to summon him for questioning and said that if necessary, he would paralyze the country to topple the Karki government.
He also instructed party workers not to rely on the weak security of the Karki government and to form local security committees in their own areas. Oli issued this warning at a time when the Commission for Investigation was reportedly preparing to call him for a statement. He stated that a media trial regarding his case is currently underway.
