Kathmandu: Elections are a mandatory requirement. The interim government is also preparing for them. However, as concerns grow over what decisions political parties, the Election Commission, and the Supreme Court will make, the country’s political course seems to be searching for direction.

Only 79 days remain until the scheduled election date. The Election Commission has completed the party registration process under both the direct and proportional representation systems and stated that it is engaged in the necessary preparations. However, major political parties have expressed doubts about whether the elections can be held on the scheduled date, citing the security situation and the overall political environment.

The parties especially point to issues such as prisoners who went missing during the Jenji movement, looted weapons not being returned, and the state’s inability to fully guarantee security. These concerns have raised questions about whether elections can be conducted in a safe environment.
